Happy New Year Everyone! Welcome to my new blog! 6 years ago I started weaving sleeping mats out of plastic grocery bags and giving them to people who are homeless.
What started out as something to do, has turned into a full fledged 501c3 non profit ministry.
I've helped many homeless people over the years. More than I could have ever imagined. I've also been in 10 different newspapers, on TV twice, I now have 2 weavers other than myself, I have a dedicated loom maker, and I have expanded from just making mats, to giving out tents, hats, blankets, socks, gloves, bibles, hygiene products, and I also have a separate ministry account for donations as well as a storage unit to store it all.
Most of this stuff is brand new and comes from my community. I live in a very supportive community and have made lots of friends.
It is my goal to share on this blog, the mats I weave, the homeless I help, the things I collect, tutorials, and the things I have learned.
Obviously, I can't post on weaving every single day. It takes time to weave a good mat properly. It takes approximately 1000 bags to weave a mat and about 20 straight hours of which I take breaks so as not to burn out.
Other posts will be Christian in nature. It is by the grace of God that this ministry has gotten this far and it is by the grace of God that keeps it running.
I hope you enjoy this little blog and find it a source of goodwill and inspiration.
God Bless,
The Mat Weavers Ministry
